The owners will have a new shipment of chicks and a package deal on supplies for those who attend!

  • 4 chicks from our stock (16.00 value). I will have new chicks for the event, and a variety of them.
  • 10 lb. Organic Chick Starter (4.50 value)
  • Chick-size, jar type waterer (7.95 value)

Grandpa says,  “If ya got dry lips, put chicken poop on ’em so ya won’t lick ’em!” Yep, that will pretty much do it!

This is a great lip balm with a slight lavender scent. Makes a great gift for your favorite chicken enthusiast (or consultant)! It’s also just plain ol’ fun to pull out a tube of Chicken Poop and apply to lips!

The Urban Chicken Consultant Recommends… the Chicken Ark

If you’re getting backyard birds this year, consider the Catawba Coop Chicken Ark. Several of my clients have these, and they are a nice set up for your backyard hens!

This coop features a roomy bottom for free-ranging fun and a secure upper section with pull-up ramp for nighttime safety. Roosts are included in the top section, and there are nest boxes on either end. Suitable for 2 to 3 hens. The coop can be picked up and moved around the yard.

Consider running hardware cloth (a heavy gauge wire mesh) down from the sides and under the ground, across the bottom, to keep rodents from digging up into the coop. (However, if you do this, you will lose the mobility.)

NOTE: ALWAYS let the ramp down in the morning during the summer. Otherwise you will roast your hens – literally – and heatstroke is not a pretty death. 

Assembly required! For those of you who are not handy with lumber, hammer, and nails, you’ll need a hand (and a few extra thumbs!)!

Urban Chickens Featured at Green Festival, San Francisco

The San Francisco Green Festival, the nation’s largest sustainability event, is featuring urban chickens on its program. If anyone is heading out to San Francisco for Nov. 6 and 7, here is the link. One of the featured exhibitors is the Nomad Chicken Pad. Cute! Personally, I’d prefer to see more free-ranging space under this chicken tractor. Perhaps the Nomad Chicken Pad has an extendable version?

Might I recommend the snazzy and memorable rubber chicken purse, not to be confused with the dead rubber chicken? This nice, roomy handbag can hold wallet, keys, business cards, dental floss, Altoids, camera bag, pens, CTA card, Post-It notes, gloves, flashlight, spare pair of shoes…

The rubber chicken purse makes a definite statement. I’m not quite sure what that statement is yet, but I’ve found that people remember the purse more than they remember me. Either that, or they leave lots of room on either side of me as I walk down the street.

For an urban chicken consultant, this purse also functions as a marketing tool. Nothing gets a conversation going like a rubber chicken purse. Therefore it is a tax-deductible business expense (I’m hoping my accountant isn’t reading this…).

Chicago residents can find this chicksessory at the Chicago Architecture Foundation and Hoypoloi Gallery (my FAVORITE Chicago art gallery). Those not lucky enough to have access to Hoypoloi Gallery (or Chicago) can purchase the purse online.
