I live in Redcliff Alberta, a small prairie town, just on the outskirts of Medicine Hat Alberta. When I contacted the town office to see what their bylaw was about urban chickens, I was reassured that chickens are not allowed! How nice. But you can keep as many guinea pigs or rabbits as you want because they are “pets”. I’m watching this issue closely as I would like to keep chickens again. ( I lived on acreages for many years, only moving to town in 2005.) I will be one of the first here to start to lobby to have my own chickens again if this legal argument holds up.

Good luck, Kathy! (-: I have a study that shows that chickens in metropolitan areas are not a nuisance, if it would help your cause.

I also vote to allow chicken keeping in redcliff and Medicine Hat, AB.. I’ve contacted the local municipality in Medicine Hat about steps to change this bylaw and was met with alittle resistance. I have no idea how one could proceed but would be appreciative if anyone has some advice!
