Join Mary Green and Matt Scallon on Tues., January 22nd at 8pm as they go before the Village Board of Trustees to request permission to keep backyard chickens.
They need as many supporters as possible to attend the meeting on the 3rd floor of Village Hall (33 S. Arlington Heights Road). Matt and Mary will both be speaking, and it would be great if a few residents could also speak in support of allowing backyard chickens in Arlington Heights. You can sign up that night before the meeting starts.
If you’re not inclined toward public speaking, you can write a short message in support of their efforts. Contact Mary (marysgreen@hotmail.com) for a list of the benefits and misconceptions around backyard chickens you can use in your letter.

Green and Scallon are particularly focused on getting “yes” votes from Trustees Glasgow, Scaletta, Breyer, and Farwell, as well as from Mayor Mulder.

Home to Roost was interviewed this week for this article on the quest to legalize chickens in Iowa City.
The Iowa City City Council voted 5-2 on the first consideration of an amendment to the city’s zoning code on establishing a permit process, which would allow residents to keep chickens at single-family detached residences. Councilors Michelle Payne and Terry Dickens voted against the measure.

A lot of folks ask me “Where can I buy local eggs?” It’s not legal to sell backyard eggs in the city (you can give a donation or own the chickens). However, John Emrich of Backyard Chicken Run recently mentioned Barrington Natural Farms to me!
